The Birthday Tradition

Traditions aren't a super big deal in my family compared to the rest of the world. We have Christmas, and eat corned beef on Easter (It's mostly so we can eat corned beef together. We don't really celebrate the whole bunny thing, although we do acknowledge "Resurrection Day"). Thanksgiving is a big deal.... and then there's the birthday treat.
I don't know when it all started or why, but since I was old enough to go out to eat without my mom, my dad has taken me out to breakfast for my birthday (as well as my other siblings, on their birthdays, of course). I remember being a bit hesitant about going out to eat because I had no idea what to do with my dad for that long (although eating delicious food was never a problem). What would we talk about??? Won't it be kind of awkward? Somehow we always managed to talk about plenty of things and it wasn't long before I was over my reservations of spending a few hours alone with my dad. ;)
Although my birthday isn't for another few days, this morning, I went out for breakfast with my dad at the Norske Nook (the restaurant we've always gone to... excluding one year when we tried a place down the road). We both ordered a "super saver" deal of hash browns, a pancake, two eggs and three sausages (for only $4 each! lol)! Yummy! ...and we talked and drank our coffee. For desert we had a cool slice of chocolate cream pie.
It is definitely a fun and special tradition. I don't know what other parents do for their kids on their birthdays, but going out to eat with my dad always made me feel really special. =D

Aww Mary El! That is such a great tradition! I'm sure now that you're older you are quite glad you went out all those times with your dad! :)
Norske Nook! I've never been there but I've heard you mention it a few times before- seems popular?

Tomorrow is your birthday!! :) I am hoping it is your best year yet!
